The lecture looks into the key narratives spread by the Russian government before and during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia's tactics used for spreading disinformation, the effect it has on public opinion, and the response of the Ukrainian government and civil society. The lecture also provides practical recommendations on how to do fact-checking about the war in Ukraine.
Valeria is the founder and head of the national media literacy project „Filter“ which is the first state media literacy institution in Ukraine. Filter works closely with the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and the international organisation IREX. For a year, Filter has been focusing on developing critical thinking of Ukrainians and positioning media literacy as a prevention against disinformation.
Previously, Valeria worked at BBC in London and was a fellow journalist at the United Nations in New York. In Ukraine, she worked as a senior correspondent for the top morning show in Ukraine Breakfast with 1+1.
