Prof. Dr. Hochscherf is currently vice president of the UAS Kiel. He has a professorship for audio-visual media. He is responsible for the modules ‘Media Studies’, ‘Communication and Media Studies’ and ‘Audio and Video Production 2’ at the Faculty of Media. He is also a professor at the Europa-Universität Flensburg.

    Prof. Dr. Tobias Hochscherf is Professor of Audiovisual Media at the Kiel University of Applied Sciences and the Europa-Universität Flensburg. He studied history, media studies, English and German studies in Hamburg, Kiel and Liverpool. He is co-founder of a media production company and has worked as a television and radio journalist. After completing his doctorate at the University of Liverpool, he was a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University in the UK. In 2009, he took up a professorship at Kiel University of Applied Sciences.

    Prof. Dr. Hochscherf grew up in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. After elementary school in Hamburg-Billstedt, he attended the Sankt-Angar-Schule (Abitur 1995). He is not to be found on campus on Holstein Kiel match days. He lives with his family in Mönkeberg.

    In terms of applied research, he deals with the development of new television and radio formats in cooperation with North German media companies and the consequences of digital change for the cultural infrastructure.

    Tobias Hochscherf is currently a cooperation partner in a Danish-German project (funded by the EU's Interreg program) dealing with the culture of remembrance and the Second World War: “Hope & Despair”.

    Tobias Hochscherf is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the German Association for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK) as well as a board member of the International Association for Media and History (IAMHIST) since 2013. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Popular Television (Intellect) and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Scandinavian Cinema (Intellect). Prof. Hochscherf is also a reviewer for Academic Quarter / Akademisk Kvarter: tidsskrift for humanistisk forskning (Aarhus Universitet, Denmark).
