Our scope of responsibility covers everything that concerns the entire student body and not just individual faculties

What does the acronym AStA stand for?

  • AStA – almost all students come across this term during their studies. The literal translation would be General Students‘ Committee (Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss)

What is the AStA?

  • The AStA is an important body that represents the interests of students and takes care of matters that go beyond the individual faculties. It is the executive body among the various student committees.

An AStA is provided for at every university in Schleswig-Holstein in accordance with §72 of the Act on Universities and the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (HSG). The AStA represents the student body externally and conducts its business.

What does the Student Council actually do?

  • According to the definition, a student council serves as "student self-administration and representation of interests". We put this into practice by collecting and making available old exams, for example, by planning barbecues, making coffee, organising tutoring sessions, holding first-year events and much more!

What is the easiest way to get in touch with us?

  • Besides the option of meeting us in the student council room C12-0.33, we also have a Moodle course where you can find all the most important information, votes on specific issues and job postings. We are also active on Instagram! Just follow us on @fachschaftmaschinenwesen!

How do I join you?

  • As a student council, we are definitely not an exclusive club. You can always drop by for a coffee or write to us. So, hope to see you soon!

How does the registration for courses work?

  • The course schedules are published a few weeks before the start of the courses. You can use them to create your own schedule and, if necessary, draw up alternative schedules. In the week before the courses actually start, you choose the courses via the module registration. You can find out more about this from the student council during the Ersti-Woche (Freshers' week)

What about the internship? How does that work?

  • In the Social Work programme (Bachelor's degree), you need to complete 2 internships throughout the entire programme. The first internship begins after the second semester at the earliest. You get to choose a field of work freely and complete a 4-week internship in an institution.

The second internship is done after the 4th semester at the earliest. For this, you look for an internship lasting 6 weeks that matches your first core subject.

The following applies to both internships: a preparation course and a follow-up course are mandatory. You need to register for the internship with the lecturer with whom you did your preparation. You register the report on your internship with the lecturer with whom you did the follow-up, which concludes the module.

Which lecturers can we recommend?

  • We actually cannot recommend any lecturers, as such recommendation would always be subjective and everyone gets on better with some people than with others.

How do people find a study group?

  • In most cases, this happens in the lectures and seminars themselves. It's best to approach fellow students openly, and then it usually tends to work out on its own.

Is attendance compulsory for tutorials?

  • No, it isn’t. But it doesn't hurt to go, as open questions can be cleared up at the tutorials and perhaps this will also lead to you finding or forming a study group.

Politically speaking, we are the highest representational council of the entire student body and are therefore superior to all student representatives and the Students’ Union AStA. The student parliament represents the opinion and will of all students at Kiel UAS. Our tasks include, for example, controlling the finances of the student body and representing student interests in the form of resolutions. We invite you to be our guest! We are always happy to have visitors who contribute interesting new aspects to our discussions and provide us with fresh approaches to certain topics.
