Application, International application & Admission
How can I apply?
An application is only possible online. You can find the online application here. After finishing your application, you receive a user name. With the user name and your password, you can check your application status at any time. You can choose you password at the online application. Here you can also see whether your documents have arrived and if they are in order or if something important is missing, so you can hand in missing documents within the application period. You will be notified by email about changes to your application - E-mail notification must be activated. Please consider that due to the great number of applications, we might not be able to inform you within the limitation period about the incorrectness/incompleteness of your application if you sent it shortly before the end of the application period.
Can I also apply without the online admission procedure?
No. Applicants with a German university entrance qualification (e.g. advanced technical college certificate, general higher education (Abitur), master craftsman’s diploma) apply exclusively online at UAS Kiel. Exceptions are applications via uni-assist e.V. for those with foreign university entrance qualifications (e.g. Abitur from Sweden). Exception: Foreign applicants who passed the assessment test, apply online and directly to UAS Kiel.
How can I get a study place?
20% of the available study places are awarded by level of qualification (average grade of school leaving certificate, etc.) and 20% according to the waiting period. The other 60% are awarded by the Hochschulauswahlquote (higher education selection quotas). This quota also uses the average grade as a selection criterion. Furthermore, there are special quotas (e.g. foreigner quota, second degree quota, hardship quota). The waiting period is the time that has passed since the acquisition of the university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) until the beginning of the study course. A waiting semester lasts 6 months. Please consider that in the case of an advanced technical college certificate, the waiting period might begin only after the date when both parts, the academic and the professional one, were completed. Study periods at German universities are not considered in the waiting period. Based on these facts, a ranking consisting of the average grade and the waiting period is calculated. Therefore, you have the possibility to be given a study place because of your grade or your waiting period.
Do my grades become better due to my waiting period?
No. The waiting period will not affect your grade (no possibility of higher grades). An application with an non-ascertainable waiting period (e.g. missing date on certificate) is ranked after the application with the worst waiting period that takes part in the procurement procedure.
How are study places awarded?
Firstly, the places are awarded in the main procedure. If study places are still available after the main procedure, there might be a succession procedure or a lottery if there are a few study places left. Participation in a possible succession procedure requires an application. With the notice of rejection, you receive a document for registration in the lottery procedure. For participation, please send the letter back to the admission office of UAS Kiel within a week. There is no ranking in the lottery procedure.
Help for study applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification
You didn’t receive your university entrance qualification or a first professional university degree in Germany but want to apply for one of our bachelor’s or master’s courses.
Thank you for your interest!
We deal with your application together with ‘uni-assist’, the service point for foreign study applications.
(If you attended a preparatory college or have a certificate of equivalence from the Ministry of Education, you can apply directly to Kiel University of Applied Sciences. An application via uni-assist is not necessary.)
When applying please consider the following:
1) Which study courses are you interested in?
You can find an overview of the study courses at UAS Kiel in our range of studies. Additionally, at www.uni-assist.de, www.daad.de, and www.study-in.de you can receive an extensive summary about ‘Studying in Germany’ for international students.
2) Attention
Applications via www.uni-assist.de are only possible online. At Kiel University of Applied Sciences, you can apply for only one restricted study course. You can apply for several study courses that have free admission.
Please register at uni-assist and create an application. When you fill in the application form, please add your email address if possible. Then, we can communicate much faster and more reliably with you and answer outstanding questions.
3) Have you attached all necessary documents?
You have to add legally certified and officially translated documents to all information stated in the online application (educational attainment, language skills, internships). An application in an incomplete form can unfortunately not be processed! If you apply to various universities simultaneously, which all take part in the uni-assist procedure, you only have to submit your documents once. Please ask directly at the universities concerned whether they also take part in the uni-assist procedure.
4) Application deadlines and further procedures
The application deadlines for restricted study courses at UAS Kiel are 15 January for the summer semester and 15 July for the winter semester. The date of receipt of the complete documents at uni-assist is valid. For courses with free admission, the application deadlines vary. You’ll find the corresponding dates here. An application via uni-assist is usually possible at the beginning of November for the summer semester and at the beginning of May for the winter semester.
Important information
According to the constant increase in the number of applications in past semesters, delays can occur during the editing of applications especially just before the closing date at uni-assist. Linked to these circumstances, notices of admission may be received later than usual. Since the University of Applied Sciences Kiel determines a fixed date of enrolment, this date might not be met especially if the applicant resides in a foreign country. For that reason, we strongly recommend you to apply as early as possible via uni-assist.
uni-assist will check your application, inform you and provide you with information about the following procedure.
If all your documents are complete and fulfil the necessary entrance requirements, uni-assist will transfer the application to our university. From all applicants, we will choose the best ones and offer them a study place at our university.
If you do not yet fulfil the application requirements, uni-assist will inform you and ask you to hand in the missing documents.
You will receive a message from uni-assist at the latest one month (usually earlier) after your application which informs you about the continuing process!
If your application has been successfully submitted to the Kiel University of Applied Sciences, you can view your processing status here.
5) Please remit the application fee
The processing of your application documents requires an application fee. You can find information about the amount payable here.
Please transfer the application fee on time, so your documents can be processed. Information on the transfer of payment, payment options and the bank details are available on the uni-assist website.
If you are transferring money from abroad, please consider that you also have to pay the amount of remittance fees from your bank.
6) Do you have further questions?
You can find more information about the uni-assist procedure here: www.uni-assist.de.
Thank you for your application!
