Baltic Gender is a consortium of research organisations and higher education institutions from the Baltic Sea Region aiming at reducing gender segregation and gender inequalities in Marine Science and Technology. The diverse mix of gender equality policies and practices in the consortium (Finland and Sweden as global leaders; Estonia and Lithuania as followers, Germany as a newly active country) constitutes an excellent basis for exchange of best-practice, collaborative learning, transfer of knowledge, comparison of data and standardization practices. The specific objectives of the consortium ar

  • establishment of Gender Equality plans (GEPs) as instruments that can catalyse institutional change. The focus will be both on the enhancement of the content of GEPs and their implementation.
  • collection of gender-segregated data and development of gender sensitive indicators on career advancement, work and family, structural change and gender in marine research and technology
  • increasing the participation of women in science and technology by supporting career advancement
  • reconciling work and family life for women and men
  • addressing structural change at the institutional level via identifying gender biases that prevent the participation of women in science and via the review and improvement of policies and practices
  • integrating methods of gender analysis into marine research and technology and integrating the gender dimension into teaching
  • raising awareness and transferring knowledge on gender equality through organisation of training sessions, strengthening of women’s networks and establishment of a mentoring scheme
  • dissemination and exploitation of results to end-users and the communication of the outcomes of the action to scientists of different disciplines, the youth, and general public.
